What this calculator does

This work hours calculator adds up the hours you worked across a week. Enter a start time, end time and unpaid break for each day, and it returns your total hours, decimal hours, and estimated gross pay including overtime. Overnight shifts are handled automatically.

Formula

Daily hours = end time − start time − unpaid break
Weekly total = sum of daily hours
Overtime hours = max(weekly total − overtime threshold, 0) (default threshold 40)
Gross pay = (regular hours × wage) + (overtime hours × wage × multiplier)
If end time ≤ start time, the end is counted on the following day.

Worked example

Example (shown in US dollars): Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 17:00 with a 30-minute unpaid break each day. Each day is 8 hours minus a 30-minute break, so 7 h 30 min per day. Across 5 days the week totals 37 h 30 min (37.50 decimal hours). At $20 per hour with no overtime, estimated gross pay is $750.00. How the calculation works

  1. Enter a start time, end time and unpaid break for each day you worked. Remove days you did not work or add days back with the "Add a day" control.
  2. If a shift ends after midnight, just enter the clock times — the calculator counts the end time on the following day automatically.
  3. Optionally add an hourly wage, overtime threshold (default 40 hours) and overtime multiplier (default 1.5) to see estimated gross pay.

Common questions

Does the calculator handle overnight shifts?

Yes. If your end time is earlier than or equal to your start time, the shift is counted as ending on the following day.

How is overtime calculated?

Hours up to the weekly threshold are paid at your regular rate. Hours above the threshold are paid at your rate multiplied by the overtime multiplier.

Is my work data stored anywhere?

No. Your calculations are processed in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server.

Are the results payroll advice?

No. Results are estimates for informational purposes. Confirm figures with your employer or payroll provider.
