What this calculator does

This overtime calculator splits your weekly pay into regular and overtime earnings. Enter your total hours, hourly wage, an overtime threshold (default 40 hours) and a multiplier (default 1.5×), and it returns regular pay, overtime pay and total gross pay.

Formula

Regular hours = min(total hours, threshold)
Overtime hours = max(total hours − threshold, 0)
Regular pay = regular hours × wage
Overtime pay = overtime hours × wage × multiplier
Total gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay

Worked example

Example (shown in US dollars): You worked 46 hours at $18 per hour with a 40-hour threshold and a 1.5× multiplier. Regular pay is 40 × $18 = $720.00, overtime pay is 6 × $27 = $162.00, and total gross pay is $882.00. Selecting EUR shows the same figures as €720.00, €162.00 and €882.00 — the amounts do not change, only the symbol.

How the calculation works

  1. Enter the total hours you worked in the week and your hourly wage.
  2. Adjust the overtime threshold and multiplier if your workplace uses different rules.
  3. Read your regular pay, overtime pay and total gross pay from the results panel.
